He's of the colour of the nutmeg. And of the heat of the ginger.... he is pure air and fire; and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness while his rider mounts him; he is indeed a horse, and all other jades you may call beasts. ~William Shakespeare, Henry V

A STICKY SITUATION AND HALLOWEEN PLANS

When the label on the Emler's glue bottle says "SAFE", don't believe it.

I always do something with the girls before they go to bed. Sometimes we play a board game, spend some time outside, feed the horses...stuff that they really like doing. Today they wanted to do some crafts. After we got done with crafts I cleaned up the kitchen table and then had to wash Jessie. Jessie somehow managed to get some of the Elmer's glue in her hair. I took a washcloth and thought I got it all out. Later, when I was putting the girls in pajama's, I noticed that Jessie's hair was stiff and really matted on the side where the glue was. I touched her hair to see what it was, and when I did that, strands of her hair came off right into my hand. I got almost a complete handful of hair before it stopped coming off. Jessie's hair was only like that in the area where the glue had been. I figure that I didn't get all the glue out and it must have dried, making her hair weak and brittle. Luckily, you really cannot tell where the hair came out unless you are really looking closely at the side of her head.

Tomorrow is Halloween. I didn't have a lot of money to spend on outfits. I asked their dad to buy them something for Halloween when they spent the weekend with him, but he didn't do it. It doesn't surprise me. My dad, however, did pick up face makeup and two set of cat ears complete with bow ties and tails. Cassie is going as a tiger and Jessie is a black cat. We will probably start tomorrow after supper around 6 p.m. I wish there were places around York to take the girls, but they are really the only smaller children here and we get absolutely no trick-or-treaters whatsoever, so I am taking them to Leeds.

The holiday is also bittersweet. Tomorrow is the 3rd year anniversary of when we laid Tanya Broden to rest and said our last goodbyes to her. I still miss her a lot and I really wish she was here to help me through my bad times. It sucks to loose really close friends when your lives are just beginning.

HEY, A POST!!

I made a quick decision tonight before bed to blog something. I haven't posted anything since the 11th and I feel obligated to do so, because what good is a blog if you only post on it once a month?!...That's my theory anyway.

The girls were sick last week and then brought the plague into our house to share it with me. Bless their little hearts. Cassie got better, but Jessie and I were unwell for a while and the two of us ended up seeing the doctor. The morning of the doctor appointments, I some how managed to get locked out of my house. The girls weren't inside the house at the time. I had taken them to my moms so I could shower and get ready for the appointments in peace. I thought briefly about kicking the front door in, then decided to go with my better judgement and tried to get a window open. So there I am....at a quarter after nine in the morning, sick beyond belief, still dressed in my pajamas, hanging from the side of my house trying to get a window open so I could get inside....it wasn't pretty. Even though the situation was embarrassing, a friend did come to my aid after seeing me on the side of my house, and with a couple of long screwdrivers the bedroom window was opened. I had just enough time to change my clothes and go back and get Jessie.

My weekend was good. Friday evening I went into Leeds for the Wildlife banquet and auction that they have every year at the community center. The center was packed with people and the auction seemed to go on forever. I didn't get home until after 11 pm. Saturday, I went to the Haunted House in Churchs Ferry. It was okay, the back yard/outside stuff creeped me out a bit and two of my friends, Vinny and Will, scared the crap out of me pretty good. After going through the Haunted House, we headed across the street to Kat's Korral bar. We enjoyed our time, had lots of laughs, and many drinks until Kat pushed us out at closing time. Sunday was my day of obligation and recovery.

I was reading through some of my previous posts, and oh my God you guys.....how could you understand what I was writing??? I don't know what was wrong with me, but I noticed that I duplicated parts of some sentences, punctuation and grammar was horrid, and most of the time I didn't make sense at all. I will try and do better from now on, I promise.

This weekend I do not have too much planned. It is my weekend to have the girls so I want to spend as much time with them as I can. Kat is having a Halloween Party at her bar. She is giving cash prizes for 1 st, 2nd, and 3rd place best costumes. That would be fun to go to. I don't know if my mom will watch the girls because she is getting ready for her hospital bake sale. My only other option is to have my regular babysitter, Kenzie, come over to babysit, but I don't know if she can because she may have volleyball. So we will see what happens this weekend. If I do go, you can bet I will have tons of pictures to post!

Happy trails, until next time!

BIRTHDAY PARTY AND SOME OTHER THINGS

On October 7th is was Cassidy's 5th birthday. We had her birthday party on Saturday, the 4th, at my mom and dads house in Leeds. Rainy came out with her three children, and Kristi came along with her and also brought her three children as well. Brandie Duran from Leeds also came with her two oldest boys. All the kids got along really well and had a lot of fun playing together.

This year, Cassie requested a lion birthday cake. She helped my mom and sister make two of them. I attempted to help, but stopped after I burnt the coconut that was toasting in the oven and filled my parents house with smoke that we all thought for sure was going to set off the fire detectors. Cassie got a lot of really nice gifts from all of her friends. Her favorite gift was the Dora the Explorer backpack that Auntie Lynnette gave her. I got her the Barbie Mermaidia DVD and a Barbie Mermaidia doll to go with it. She also got some nice clothing and a Rhino Rampage game that is really fun to play.

Things are getting pretty quiet at the shop where I work. It's expected since all the farmers are finishing up with harvest and winter is setting in. I was told that I may have to be let go of at the end of this month if things stay slow, but I can come back in the spring when planting is beginning to start. I am going to talk with my boss and see if there is something that I can do, maybe even three days a week for a few hours, so I have some time to save up for a laptop so I can do my medical transcription work over the winter.

Today, I spent two hours out in the yard cleaning up for winter. I got the pool taken down and stored in a shed in the back yard, I put all the girls outdoor toys away, and picked up all the garbage and stuff that was hanging around in the yard and got it all take to the trash. I hope it doesn't snow too soon. I am still not ready for it even though the yard is clean.

I got my first child support check on Tuesday. I was really happy to see it come in the mail. It should have been coming a long time ago, but late is always better than never.
