He's of the colour of the nutmeg. And of the heat of the ginger.... he is pure air and fire; and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness while his rider mounts him; he is indeed a horse, and all other jades you may call beasts. ~William Shakespeare, Henry V

JESSIE'S DOCTOR APPOINTMENT

When we got to the clinic on Friday, the doctor had a strep test performed and blood drawn for Jessie. The strep test came back negative. The blood tests showed that her hemoglobin was 14.1, which is a little because she isn’t drinking much. Her white blood cell count was normal at 9600 with normal differentials so he isn’t worried about leukemia. Her blood sugar, electrolytes, and kidney tests were good except 1 kidney test was slightly elevated. Her chloride and sodium were also low. Again, this is all because she is not drinking much. Blood cultures are also being done but they take a few days to be completed so we may not have the results right away tomorrow. The doctor said that if Jessie does not improve over the weekend she will need IV fluid and hospitalization.

Today Jessie still is not drinking or eating too much. She has been refusing her Pedialyte and water. I have given her some milk in small doses and so far she has kept that down. However, after drinking the milk she gags and coughs a lot acting like she wants to throw up. She is still very crabby and moody and her diarrhea has not improved and from time-to-time she will cry like there is some cramping going on. I will call the doctor and let him know how the weekend went. Hopefully something miraculous will happen so that we do not have to take her to the hospital.
