HEARTBREAK ALERT

I just made a tough decision. I decided to find a new home for my sorrel mare Luna. In reality, I am not going to be able to afford the care that she will now need because of her navicular. I hate thinking that she will no longer be mine, and it makes me very sad. I love her, but finding her a home where her navicular will be taken care of properly is the best thing for her.

A man called me yesterday about my horse. He decided to take her and is sending his two sons down today to pick her up. I almost told him that I had changed my mind, but I knew it would have been a very selfish thing to do, and wouldn't be in the best interest of my horse.

Yesterday, I talked to the girls about Luna going to a new home. They were very sad about it, as was I, but I told them if we are going to have animals we had to be able to take care of them, and mommy wasn't going to be able to care for Luna. Cassidy cried a lot and Jessie seemed so-so with it. I am sure that will change today though. I told them it was okay to be sad about it, but we are doing what is best for Luna by sending her to a new home.

Today I am going to take the girls outside so they can ride Luna one more time before the men get here to pick her up. I am also going to take pictures and cut some hair from underneath her tail. I am really going to miss my mare. I broke her 19 years ago when she was only year and a half. While I was breaking her, my dad and I fell in love with her. My dad bought her and gave her to me as a surprise. I'm not going to go on about the story, I know I have posted it before. It's heart wrenching to think about at the moment.

We will still have Mack and Oreo. I am going to start working with Oreo very soon since the weather is warming up. Mack is 10-years-old and a little on the lazy side. He isn't like Luna at all, but he should make a very good horse for the girls. I am hoping since Oreo is younger he will have a little get-up-and-go to him. We will have to see how it works out.

A SMALL UPDATE

I am back from hiatus.

It isn't by choice that I have not posted in over a month. My home PC got infected with a nasty virus and was out of commission for a while. I had a friend fix it, and three days after I got it back, it picked up another virus that totally wiped out my tool bar and I don't know what to do about that. So, I will be posting before or after work until my home computer is fixed.

My 31st birthday was on February 8th. I didn't do anything exciting. The girls and I ate supper at my moms and she brought a cake home. Other than that, it was the same daily routine. Birthdays have just become another day-in-the-life to me. That must be a sign that I'm getting old.

Over the weekend my horses decided to test the limits of my pasture fence. They escaped three times. They were never hurt and the worst they did was run around town and poop on every single street in town. I fixed the fence on Saturday and they have not been out since. I hope it stays that way until I can put up my new fence this spring.

I have made the decision to find a home for my mare with navicular. She is eventually going to get to the point where my girls will be to heavy for her. I want her to go to a good home where there are small children and she can be ridden. I may have found someone who will take her. It isn't 100% yet. They are supposed to call me and arrange to take a look at my mare. And who knows, I may even wuss-out on the last moment and decide not to get rid of her because of sentimental value. I guess I will make that decision when the time comes....whenever that will be.
