SURPRISE
Last week, city elections were held. Everyone knows how it goes. People get out and vote for people to serve on the park board, city council, Mayor, etc.
Yesterday, the girls and I went over to the mayors home because the girls like to use their trampoline. When we got there, I had a surprising conversation with the mayor's wife. It went somewhat like this:
Brenda: "So, did you hear how the elections went?"
Me: "No."
Brenda: "You made it onto the city council."
Me: "What?"
Brenda: "Yep. There were 4 votes for Art, 4 votes for Jim, 4 votes for Janet, and you had 5 write-in votes."
Me: "Holy crap!"
So everyone, you are looking at one of the newest members of the York city council. The other three people tied, so they will have to re-vote or do something to figure out which one of them is also serving on the board. I was told that they normally flip a coin. However, in this case there are 3 people, not two, and there isn't such a thing as a 3 sided coin.
I am a bit excited. There are some things I would like to see passed through the council and things that could be done for the benefit of the town. Depending on who the other council members are, I know my votes or suggestions may, or may not, be heard. However, we all know that I can be loud.
Oh, and get this...my brother is the Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce in Cando! It looks like our whole family is meant to be on some kind of city board.
