He's of the colour of the nutmeg. And of the heat of the ginger.... he is pure air and fire; and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness while his rider mounts him; he is indeed a horse, and all other jades you may call beasts. ~William Shakespeare, Henry V

FRIDAY

I got up at 8am so I could load Tango into the trailer and get him ready for the vet. My mom had a good idea the night before when I got the trailer. She suggested that I take him with me to the funeral and then just leave for Cando from Ferry after the services, that way, I could stay for the grave rites and the lunch. After Darren and I got Tango loaded, we came back into the house and Cassie was just waking up. Okay, I know what everyone is thinking, but Cassie was only sleeping in the house alone for a short moment and the truck, trailer, and horse were just right outside in our front yard so it wasn't like we were clear up at our barn or anything doing it. It's a trailer house, if she would have started to cry for some reason, we would have heard it. Darren got Cassie's cereal ready and I got her from her crib. Then Darren ate breakfast with Cassie while I got dressed. I didn't worry about wearing anything special since I had to get to the vet. Then I took off around 9 because I had to stop and Cenex here in York and fill Darrens truck with fuel. I made it to the church with 15 minutes to spare and there was only one row of seats available so I sat in the farthest available seat so that other people behind me had a chance at getting a seat without jumping over everyone else. By the time the funeral started, the whole church was packed, there dining room was full, and there were people standing against the wall because there wasn't any other place to go. I did really well until they played "Go Rest High On That Mountain" by Vince Gill. That song pretty much tore everyone up. I don't think that there was a dry eye in the whole building. I didn't worry about going out to the cemetery since I had the horse trailer. I tried to hike a ride with someone but I couldn't find anyone to go with before the line of cars started moving. So I chatted with people in the church and waited for everyone to get back. When the got back, I had lunch, I spoke to Barb Henderson and the children and then I left for Cando. I am really glad that I took Tango with me because I didn't get into the truck until 12:30 and there was no way I would have had the time to go back to York and then get to Cando by 1pm. I was at the vets until 3:30 and I got home around 5.
